For the second consecutive year, the project “URBAN UTOPIAS” will appear in Burgas with a new dose of UNexpected artistic interventions in the city environment — actions that inspire the creative participation of the audience and the creation of poetic urban narratives!
URBAN UTOPIAS is a long-term project by Sensory Theatre Sofia, dedicated to carrying out artistic interventions and poetic performances in public spaces. The project views and explores the city as a natural stage — a mise-en-scène — where unusual creative happenings unfold, blending art and life until the boundaries between them dissolve.
This is an art of surprise and the unexpected, using the expressive means of sensory theatre, music, movement performance, and costume design, appearing suddenly in everyday urban environments — streets, squares, parks, and city gardens — and engaging the audience in active creative interaction.
Created as a rupture in the banality and repetition of daily life, URBAN UTOPIAS provides that minimal dose of wonder, surprise, and magic needed to help us remember our nature as astonished, astonishing beings — who create as effortlessly as they breathe.
The unusual, surreal characters and images emerging from these immersive performances become epicenters of the familiar urban landscape, drawing all eyes toward them, filling minds with questions, inviting photographs and shares on social media (thus turning random passersby into co-creators), and giving the feeling that the witnesses have been chosen (by the law of non-coincidence) to observe a secret ritual — scenes that bridge different dimensions and realities.
This year, URBAN UTOPIAS in Burgas will present two events BEYOND WORDS, expanding the narrative of the Silencenauts and their future culture — one that is more creative, empathetic, and delicately attuned to both natural and urban environments.
Thanks to the invitation of the VODA Contemporary Arts Festival, the Burgas audience will have the chance to participate in two interactive performances, taking place in spaces as unusual and alive as the performances themselves!
