The Center for New Urban Utopias (CNUU) is one of the most enigmatic and forward-thinking creative projects of Sensory Theatre Sofia. It envisions a new creative industry, built upon networks of hidden spaces for unexpected encounters and experiences, interwoven with poetic narratives and connected through a mobile application – “Labyrinthopia”.
CNUU maps a world within the world, crafting a parallel reality where art and life blend seamlessly, subtly yet profoundly transforming our perception of urban space.
At its core, CNUU explores and reimagines the city as a META-being—both a stage and the protagonist of poetic and surreal narratives. Acting as a creative powerhouse, the center generates art of surprise and spontaneity, emerging at any moment in the everyday urban landscape—streets, squares, underpasses, rooftops, gardens, shops, public and private buildings, public transport, and more.
As an embassy of the future, CNUU fosters an art of human connection—a kind of intimate tourism that leads to encounters of fateful significance.
At present, CNUU is still in its prenatal phase, emerging from the realm of the unthinkable. Through a series of artistic research performances, creative residencies, and educational programs, the center consciously expands the imaginable. Using the methods of sensory theatre, creative writing, photography, music, and psychogeography, it discovers and develops new forms of life=art.
